Compositions

Wes Dyring’s first composition, Fruit Cake, written at the age of eight, was adventurous—containing chromatic notes, tonal modulation and change of meter. Wes has found opportunities to perform it at school visits, encouraging children to try their hand at writing their own music.

While attending Michigan State University as a violin and viola performance major, Wes also enthusiastically studied harmony, counterpoint and orchestration. His composition for string quartet received high honor, including a special performance for an audience of students and faculty, and his orchestrations garnered praise from his instructors.

Wes’ most recent work includes a planned publication of his editions of scale studies and technical exercizes for violin and viola, as well as experiments with Persian classical music.
